Photovoltaic Cells for your Home

Photovoltaic cells are special cells that can turn solar energy into electricity. You probably know them from solar panels used to heat water, but they have much more uses than that.

One of these uses is to power your house. It may sound insane, but a few solar panels can cut your electricity bill by up to 50%, and adding more of them can cover the entire electricity costs of your house.

Of course, you can't build such system with only photovoltaic cells, and you need inverters, batteries, and other equipment you can buy at the alternative energy store, where you can also get photovoltaic cells.

And last, but not least: you need to put it all together. Earth4Energy, the famous guide, can help you do it.

Hope you find it useful.

Save Energy at Home

Homes are a place where a lot of energy is wasted. Electric appliances are usually big consumers of electricity, and sadly, they do so even when they are not in use (stand-by mode). One way to battle this is using more efficient appliances and bulbs, such as compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs (or CFLs) are a smaller version of the long fluorescent lights, and they can be screwed in like any regular light bulb. Their big advantages are energy consumption and energy efficiency: they need only 13 watts to produce as much light as a 75-watt incandescent light bulb. That's a big saving.

I will expand on this subject later, but right now just remember that CFLs can make a huge difference in your electricity bill. A simple calculation I made showed that changing 30 light bulbs to CFLs can save about $1500 per year, definitely not something to ignore.

Welcome to the Energy Blog!

Welcome to the Energy Blog!

In this blog, I will discuss energy related issues, such as electric car conversion, compact fluorescent light bulbs, wind turbines and solar panels, and other issues. The blog will be updated at least once a week.

Hoping to see you here,
